GIT issue git push -u origin master [rejected] master -> master (non-fast-forward)

Hello,

I am new to git. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. If I can somehow pull the latest code from the GIT repo, could it fix the problem?

Please help!

<1>
$ git status results in
HEAD detached at origin/master
Untracked files:
(use "git add ..." to include in what will be committed)

../.htaccessBACKUP
../acquia-files/
../drupal_private_files/
../robots.txt.BACKUP

nothing added to commit but untracked files present (use "git add" to track)

<2> I read some posts that a simple PUSH will fix it. This is the error I get when I push.

<3>
$ git push -u origin master
To svn-15689.prod.hosting.acquia.com:compscisbu.git
! [rejected] master -> master (non-fast-forward)
error: failed to push some refs to 'compscisbu@svn-15689.prod.hosting.acquia.com:compscisbu.git'
hint: Updates were rejected because a pushed branch tip is behind its remote
hint: counterpart. Check out this branch and integrate the remote changes
hint: (e.g. 'git pull ...') before pushing again.
hint: See the 'Note about fast-forwards' in 'git push --help' for details.
