Upgrading to Drupal 7 is not always a smooth process. Some modules' upgrade paths are tricky, some don't quite work. The goal of this forum is to fix that. This is the place to present problems you encounter, ask for help and ideas, and share your frustrations, and so on. But it is also the place to report progress on the issues herein, help other users with solutions and work-arounds you have found, and present new patches, work-arounds and fixes as they come to light.
Bugs, barriers and discussions ...
This forum's main areas of focus forum are: upgrade bugs, upgrade barriers and general discussion around upgrading.
An upgrade bug is a problem you encounter while upgrading that causes problems in the Drupal 7 version of your site (i.e. images missing, missing formatting, database upgrade errors, etc.) or stops you entirely (i.e. "white screen of death" or other "fatal" errors).
When reporting upgrade bugs, please describe as best you can relevant information about your Drupal installation and the problem(s) you are having.
An upgrade barrier is an issue preventing you from upgrading to Drupal 7 all together - i.e. "I would upgrade to Drupal 7 tomorrow if only ..."
The most common type of upgrade barrier is a module that is essential to your Drupal 6.x website, but doesn't have a Drupal 7 version.
When considering solutions to upgrade barriers, forum users can suggest work-arounds and other modules that might do the same job as the missing module(s).
If no adequate substitute(s) can be found, this forum can be used as the kick-off point for an organized effort to port the module(s) in question to Drupal 6. This might mean:
- building community awareness and consensus
- testing or writing patches to help module maintainers
- raising (monetary or other) bounties to support the upgrade work in question
Upgrade should be a no-brainer ... You'd expect site developers and administrators to have jumped at the chance to upgrade their existing sites to Drupal 7, considering all of the improvements and new features that Drupal 6 brought with it. Instead, uptake has been slow and some new projects are still being executed in Drupal 6.x despite its limitations and the short remaining lifetime of its supported state as a Drupal distribution.
- What else is holding you or others back from upgrading to Drupal 7?
- What essential (at least to you) modules still don't have a Drupal 7 version after release?
- What modules upgrade paths are fraught with bugs and code problems?
